Help the Lebanese International Student Community in Australia

Australia has always been the dream study destination for millions of students because of the high standard of living, strong economy, world-class universities, and importance given to human rights. The University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Adelaide, etc. stand high in the rank list of top educational institutes.

Furthermore, Australian universities are well known for their highly coveted MBA programs and extensive research in science and technology. It attracts thousands of students across the globe to pursue their dream careers in Australia. These international students play a vital role in the Australian economy by contributing to indigenous research and governing the top-level hierarchy for many big corporations after they complete their studies.

All in all, the community of Lebanese international students in Australia is a highly valuable asset to the country.

Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, they’re facing many problems because of nationwide lockdown. Most of the Lebanese international students in Australia depend on daily part-time jobs to meet their basic needs which include things such as:
● Paying house rent
● Buying groceries and food items
● Manage commute costs
● Paying for the university’s tuition

According to the law, they were permitted to work 20 hours every week to meet their expenditures. These students used to do jobs like teaching and research assistants, librarians, sitting on counters, working at gas stations, working as waiters in hotels and restaurants, delivery boys, etc. They were paid hourly according to their job profiles.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the Lebanese international students in Australia have lost their only source of income. The community is going through a critical financial crisis. Their future is dark, and they’re not even sure if they can meet their basic needs after their funds run out.

They can not return to their homes because of the travel ban. The shortage of funds is another hurdle for international students. Furthermore, due to the lack of funds, they won’t be able to cover the cost of medicines and hospital bills in case of an unforeseen illness.

Moreover, students from Lebanon are heavily affected in this lockdown because Lebanese banks have prohibited international fund transfers since December 2019 due to internal protests. In this situation, they can’t receive financial help from their parents. Therefore, of all the international students, Lebanese students are in need of monetary help ASAP.

The students can not apply to Center Link for monetary help as they are not Australian citizens. It is high time that everyone should unite and help the international student community. The Lebanese international students in Australia had left their homes to pursue their career goals. Who knew they had to face these inevitable circumstances as a result of the tragic Coronavirus outbreak?

Australians are well known around the world for their helpfulness and philanthropic efforts. It is an opportunity where genuine financial help from people can help students in times of crisis. It is your chance to become an unsung hero amidst this lockdown!

It is rightly said that “every drop in the ocean counts.” Even a single dollar contribution can get compounded to thousands of dollars, which will be of great help to the helpless students. A small financial contribution from your pocket has a huge potential to help a student in need.

We ask for your help so that we together can cater to the urgent requirements of the Lebanese international students in Australia. Will you help them?
