2019-2020 Book of Lists brings immigrant leaders, new lists to forefront

The Boston Business Journal has released its 2020 edition of the Book of Lists, its annual compendium of the wide-ranging companies and executives driving the state’s economic engine.

Anchoring the publication, which hits subscribers' mailboxes today and tomorrow, is a special focus on executives who share a common trait: They’re all immigrants who have risen to the top executive roles at their respective companies, which encompass the financial services, technology and biopharma industries, among others. Mini profiles at the start of each industry section within the Book of Lists illuminate the professional paths of these business leaders and innovators who hail from around the world. A special thanks to The Immigrant Learning Center in Malden, which assisted in identifying and reaching several of the immigrant entrepreneurs and executives who were featured.

This year’s 160-page edition includes every list the BBJ has published over the course of 2019 — more than 70 in total — containing its market-leading business intelligence on thousands of companies spanning every industry sector.

Among the new lists — or those returning after a hiatus — in this latest edition are Executive Search Firms, Interior Design Firms, Web Design & Development Firms, Software Developers, Moving Companies, Charitable Foundations, and Restaurant Groups. Also included are pages devoted to the BBJ’s first-ever Executive Education Guide, a directory of graduate and certificate programs offered by the Bay State’s universities and colleges; and data point pages culled from the BBJ’s weekly “List Plus” feature that offer additional context on the various list topics in the form of charts, tables, industry statistics and articles.

Those sectors include industries that are staples in the Bay State — such as legal, accounting, health care, higher ed and commercial real estate. The lists also provide snapshots of emerging growth industries taking root here, including breweries, cannabis dispensaries, and multiple tech sub sectors such as robotics, clean energy and cybersecurity. In addition, there are lists devoted to various types of business owners who are contributing mightily to the state’s economy, including Minority/Women, Veterans, LGBT and Family-Owned Businesses. Meanwhile, the BBJ's annual awards-focused lists chart the trajectories of the fastest-growing private companies in the state as well as the local charitable-giving efforts of some of the best-known business brands, among other topics.

The lists are broken out into sections in BOL covering Professional Services; Banking & Finance; Wealth, Philanthropy & The Arts; Education & Technology; Architecture, Engineering & Construction; Real Estate; Health Care & Life Sciences; Hospitality, Retail & General Interest; and Top Companies & BBJ Awards.
